Location
All classes are held at The Virginia Book Art Studio, 600 East Water Street, Suite F, Charlottesville, Virginia 22903, unless otherwise noted in the class description. There is street parking available, on E Water street, beyond the studio. There are also 2 parking garages, and public parking lots within walking distance.
Materials
Most of the supplies and materials needed for class will be provided, and the cost is included in the registration fee. The course description will list additional materials that the teacher suggest you bring along if needed.
What to bring
You should wear comfortable clothes and shoes. Please bring an apron for protection if concerned with spills or stains, as most of our class processes can be messy. For longer classes bring a bag lunch or snack. There are several restaurants nearby, but most often time will not allow for long lunch breaks.
Photography
We often take photographs during our classes for use on social media and for publicity. Please let the instructor know ahead of class, if you don’t want to be photographed.
Conduct
Virginia Book Arts is dedicated to providing educational experiences that are respectful and welcoming to people of all backgrounds. We ask members, volunteers, friends and visitors to help us achieve this goal by refraining from all forms of harassment and offensive conduct; listening as much as you speak; remembering that others may have expertise of which you are unaware; accepting critique graciously and offering it constructively; giving credit where it is due; and staying alert to the comfort, safety, and welfare of those around you.
Studio Safety and Liability
Bookbinding and printing processes use tools that are potentially dangerous. We will do our best to train class participants how to properly use the equipment and provide supervision. But students assume the risk of working with the tools and materials provided. Take extra precaution when handling lead type, by frequently washing hands and avoid having food and drink near typesetting areas. By registering for a workshop, participants (and parents/guardians of participants who are minors) agree to hold harmless Virginia Book Arts, the VBA Executive and Steering Committees, and teaching artists. VBA is not responsible for lost, stolen, or damaged personal belongings or artwork.
