Encaustic for Book Covers & Content

This workshop will introduce you to the world of encaustic wax and you will learn how to approach encaustic wax application for preservation and surface decoration with book arts in mind.  Encaustics provides an archival and dimensional surface. Be confident after this hands on opportunity about tools, techniques and materials for engaging at home.

The instructor will provide testing materials to keep in a sample journal created in class and supplies to create two small functional prototype books using Pamphlet and Chain Loop bindings and a hardcover Accordion.

Participants are invited to bring papers, cloth, recycled book covers, image transfer pieces, collage,  threads and ephemera that they want to experiment with.

All other materials and supplies are provided. Please bring a bag lunch.

Minimum number of participants: 4

If minimum enrollment for the class has not been reached 48 hours prior to the start of class, VBA reserves the right to cancel the class. In this case, you will be notified 48 hours in advance.
