Sewn Board Binding

Sewn Board Binding is an elegant and contemporary method of binding a book that features a flexible cover, unattached spine, and completely flat book opening. It is constructed with little adhesive and common materials. Unlike traditional case bound books, gluing in the text block is easy. Participants will fold signatures, use a jig to punch sewing stations, sew the text block and cover materials together, and complete the book with spine cloth and decorative paper. The resulting book is useful as a journal and sketchbook and is easily replicated at home in varied sizes and materials.
