Secret Belgian Binding

Secret Belgian binding (or crisscross binding) features a linear pattern of colored thread crisscrossing over and between the spine and the two covers. This structure holds the cover boards together without glue; signatures are then cleverly stitched into the spine. The result is a sturdy binding which opens completely flat making it perfect for journals, diaries, notebooks, scrapbooks and sketchbooks. Participants will fold signatures and use a jig to create sewing holes. Then, using fine art paper and book cloth, participants will cover 3 separate boards (front, back, spine), sew the boards together, and sew the signatures into the cover. Participants will learn principles for making the binding in different sizes.

All materials and tools are provided. The class fee includes $15 for material costs. Please bring a bag lunch/snack.
