Introduction to Letterpress Printing

October 3 @ 12:00 pm4:00 pm
$90.00

How on earth did people print things before the invention of the computer? This workshop will cover the mechanics of hand-setting and printing movable type using historic “slow technology” in this one-day introduction to letterpress printing. We’ll cover type setting, lock-up, proofing, printing, and cleaning a Vandercook Universal cylindrical printing press, along with general letterpress best practices. Bring a brief piece of writing—haiku, quote, proverb, etc.—to set and print during the workshop. We’ll be getting inky and working on our feet for duration of the workshop, so wear clothing you don’t mind getting dirty, along with comfortable, close-toed shoes. Everyone will take home their own set of collaborative letterpress prints.

All necessary tools and supplies will be provided for use during the workshop.

Minimum number of participants: 3

If minimum enrollment for the class has not been reached 72 hours prior to the start of class, VBA reserves the right to cancel the class. In this case, you will be notified 72 hours in advance, and your registration fee will be refunded.
