Pressure Printing with Letterpress

Pressure printing is an experimental, low relief printing process that utilizes cut paper, lace, fabric, stencils, plants, or other collaged materials adhered to a backing sheet to create layered texture and color when run through the press. The layered backing sheet is placed behind the printing paper and run over a type-high, inked surface, transferring the image to the press sheet through the pressure applied by the backing sheet. This can be a quick and economical way to get an image onto paper and results in a fuzzy, atmospheric print. Participants will work individually and collectively to create a variety of stencils to print during the workshop. We will also address how to adjust cylinder packing and form height to achieve the best printed results.

Please note: This is an intermediate letterpress printing class. Some previous letterpress experience is required.

Participants are encouraged to bring their own fabric, stencils, plants, or other materials to experiment with. All other necessary tools and supplies will be provided.

Minimum number of participants: 3

If minimum enrollment for the class has not been reached 72 hours prior to the start of class, VBA reserves the right to cancel the class. In this case, you will be notified 72 hours in advance, and your registration fee will be refunded.
